Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) In The News: Providing New Hope For People Living With Depression

At Arkansas Psychiatric Clinic, our physicians have achieved significant positive results using transcranial magnetic stimulation in patients with treatment-resistant depression.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, delivers small, painless electrical impulses to the prefrontal cortex, activating the area. Many psychiatry professionals believe that the prefrontal cortex is underactive in people with depression. TMS activates the area, often providing significant symptom relief for patients who have not experienced success with traditional forms of depression treatment, such as talk therapy and the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

Recently, NPR shared an in-depth story about TMS to help patients and their families better understand emerging trends in TMS treatments.

At Arkansas Psychiatric Clinic, our treatment differs slightly from what’s described in this article—we don’t typically use an MRI to determine the location of treatment, and it’s unusual for us to offer several treatments in a day. We always strive to fit TMS treatments into your typical daily schedule in order to minimize the overall disruption t to your life
